Education in Himachal Pradesh is administered by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education at all levels. It is a state board in India and is also referred to as the HPBOSE. The himachal pradesh board of school education came into existence in 1969. It had its head-quarter at Shimla, but later it was shifted to Dharamshala in January 1983. At present, more than 8000 schools are affiliated with the HPBOSE Board. It has set up 1846 examination centres throughout the state.

Functions of HPBOSE

HPBOSE is a government body which is responsible for organising and conducting the board exams at the state level for 10th and 12th standard. Apart from conducting the board exams, HPBOSE is responsible for various other educational activities as mentioned below.

  • The board prescribes syllabus and courses of instructions.
  • It publishes textbooks for class 1 to 12.

  • The board also conducts exams for J.B.T and T.T.C courses.
  • It has also established 26 book distribution & guidance/information centres in the state to cater to the needs of students.
