Banquet halls in Kolkata get booked for multiple weddings belonging to serval castes and communities. But Bengali Wedding is a completely seperate world. There are few hidden Rituals with Bongs!

1.Aiburobhat

The most Indianised form of Bachelorette. This neither has alcohol nor the bride or groom can have a night out with their friends in this ritual. This is celebrated in the banquet halls in Kolkata. Where,, the family feeds the person with more than a lot of dishes served together. This only happens in be Bengali Weddings.

2.Shree making

3.Naru

Very few Bengali Weddings do have this ceremony. Where, five married women from the family, and one bramhin woman belonging to some other family, sit together near a mat. Where, all of them take rice flour, seasome seeds, Palm Jaggery and blend all that together to form small balls, which is later deep fried in oil. 4.Jal Saitejawa

Not in the banquet halls in Kolkata, but in a nearby pond or lake that has ample water for dipping the feet. The rule is to gather untouched water from the side, that is fetched in the early morning before sunrise. A very beautiful aspect of Bengali Weddings.

5.Gaye Holuder Totto

A very special aspect, here is the ritual of tatta which the groom’s family sends gifts to the bride’s family on the wedding day. It is basically an exchange of gifts between the families known as tatta. It includes delicacies such as sweets,fruits, mishti doi,clothes, cosmetics etc for the bride and also close friends and the relatives.

7.Bodhu Borun

The couple departs from the banquet halls in Kolkata to enter into their new life. The bride goes to the groom’s family where bodhu boron is done. It is a ritual where the newly wedded daughter in law enters her in-laws home. It is a welcome gesture for the bride by her in-laws. Not only Bengali Weddings, common with almost all Indian cultures.

8.Bhat Kapor

In the morning the newly wedded bride serves the ghee-bhaat popularly known as bou bhat. It generally starts with the eldest member of the family. The bou-bhat marks the bride’s first meal in her husband’s home or banquet halls in Kolkata.  Family, friends,relatives are invited for the meal. The Bengali wedding comes to an end with the ceremony of Ful-sojja or bengali version of suhagrat.
